Plans for this Blog

My other blog , as I mentioned in a previous post, is now more or less a repository of my legal articles, poems, sermons and devotionals. To distinguish this blog from the other one I intend MC (shortcut for Monolithic Country) to be a place where I can put my random reflections on anything on a daily basis. I guess the goal will be simply to improve my writing skills by actually writing everyday. One possibility is to use this as a spiritual journal. We'll see how it goes. The important thing is to develop the habit of blogging daily. Update 26 July 2023: I'm thinking more of making this into a dedicated blawg, i.e., a personal blog consisting of reflections on the law and law practice. We'll see.

Thinking about Reviving

I have another blog: attycortes.wordpress.com. There I post my poems, sermons, and devotionals. It started out as a blawg but quickly transformed into a Christian blog. That's fine with me actually as I think I've outgrown the desire to write legal articles. But I was thinking of a blog where I can put in my daily reflections on almost anything without the need of having to copy in full verses in the Bible. Wordpress.com doesn't support reftagger, which is a very useful tool because you just hover over the verse citation and the verse pops out. But Blogspot.com supports it, so I thought I'll try it out again. Once a week I'll post my weekly devotionals on attycortes.wordpress.com, but in-between I'll blog here on everything else. The model I intend to follow is that of Seth Godin: nothing fancy, no pictures, a short paragraph or two, and that's it!

Blog Retirement - Again!

I'm really, really retiring this blog! Won't delete it though. Just won't post in it anymore. My other - active - blogs are: - Philippine Theo Law Gee - Attycortes: Songs - Attycortes: Sermons

Hibernation

I find it difficult to maintain more than one blog. So I guess the thing to do is to concentrate on just one. That means Monolithic Country is going to go on hibernation mode, but I'm not going to delete it because it has a number of posts which can't be found in my other blog. My focus, however, will be on my other blog: Philippine Theo Law Gee . See you there!

Podcasts Gone

Switchpod, which hosts my podcasts for free, seems to have signed off for good. That means my podcasts which I've posted on this blog are gone for good. Anyhow, I still have some of my songs and sermons on the following websites: attycortessongs.tumblr.com and attycortessermons.tumblr.com .

Discipling the Christian Mind

(Notes on a talk for the August 25, 2009 Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship summer camp at Humayan, Bago City, Negros Occidental, Philippines) I.DEFINITION AND EXPOSITION Discipling the Christian mind is simply disciplining and developing our mental powers, much in the same way you develop your body’s muscles, for the glory of God and for the sake of Christ (Matt. 22: 37; I Cor. 1:30, 2:16; Phil. 2:5). It involves developing our reasoning powers in the power of the Spirit so as to distinguish truth from error, right from wrong (Heb. 5:14), as well as to overcome opposing arguments (II. Cor. 10: 4, 5). It involves growth in spiritual wisdom (Prov. 4:7; Eph. 4: 17ff.; Jas. 1:5; Ps. 119:99), as well as the accumulation of useful knowledge. II. EXPLANATION: WHY DISCIPLE THE MIND? A) For our own benefit (Rom. 12:2; II Pet. 2:3, 4). Knowledge of God, of his ways, his character, his truth and promises, plays a major role in our spiritual regeneration and transformation. B) For the
